Overview

GZL Sweet Hunter is a charming local eatery tucked away in Jalan Lang Kuning Kepong Baru, Taman Sri Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. This small but inviting spot specializes in classic Malaysian comfort food, focusing on nostalgic noodles, rice dishes, and a variety of traditional sweet desserts that resonate deeply with both young and older food lovers alike.

The menu is notably diverse, offering well-loved staples such as fried flat noodles, fried radish and yam cakes, and savory rice dishes like chicken chop served with a unique salad sauce. These mains are complemented by a rich selection of desserts and sweet soups—items like ice cendol, ais kacang, green bean tong sui, and lotus seed pancakes provide the perfect balance, catering to those looking for a refreshing treat or a hearty finish to their meal.

In particular, the fried shrimp noodles draw attention for their crisp pan-fried texture combined with succulent shrimp, delivering satisfying mouthfeel and flavor. Similarly, the comforting porridge with fresh ingredients and the Yong Tau Foo highlight a dedication to authentic, homestyle cooking. The array of tong sui (sweet soups) stands out as a comforting choice, with three types of beans receiving high praise for their generous portions and authentic taste.

The experience at GZL Sweet Hunter is enhanced by its cozy, modest ambience that echoes the appeal of a neighborhood café. It’s a place where regulars feel at home, and newcomers can discover familiar Malaysian flavors with ease. Service is generally friendly and attentive, though some patrons note room for improvement in speed and cleanliness, particularly in restroom facilities.

This eatery primarily attracts locals and families seeking a casual dining spot to enjoy hearty meals and traditional desserts without the pretension of a formal restaurant. Its reasonable pricing and welcoming vibe make it a reliable choice for everyday dining or dessert cravings in the Kepong area.

While parking space is limited, and some textures like the carrot cake could be firmer, GZL Sweet Hunter remains a nostalgic gem, especially for those yearning for classic flavors executed with care. It’s the kind of place worth revisiting—not just for the comforting dishes but for the subtle improvements that show the owners’ commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.

I recently revisited GZL Sweet Hunter in Kepong for a morning dessert, and it was another delightful experience. The food tasted just as delicious as usual, and it's heartening to observe that they are making noticeable improvements in terms of cleanliness and their overall service attitude. The small store ambiance adds to its charm. My only suggestion for further enhancement would be to work on improving toilet cleanliness in the near future. Overall, it's still a go-to spot for satisfying sweet cravings!

Pleasant mannered lady took our order. Service was fast. I ordered “wat dan yin yong” , personally rate it much tastier than other stalls that i have eaten so far. Husband ordered porridge, was good too. Actually i love their 3 types beans tong sui (sweet soup) most. Cost a Rm 23 for this meal. Portion quite big, actually can be shared.

Menu has varieties of food. Limited parking. Price is reasonable. Food serving is rather slow. I like the fried Will go back again to try out others food. the carrot cake texture is too soft but I like the taste. Red bean yam blended is not good as they are using yam powder not real yam. Parking is limited.

Dining inside aircond room is comfortable. The food is delicious with reasonable price tag. Just need a little bit longer to wait for the food. Average waiting time is 10 to 15 min. Considered it is ok for the waiting time for me. And got variety of food to choose.

Ordered red bean soup and fried carrot cake. Both are pretty decent, price is reasonable as the shop has air-conditioning, would return to try other items on the menu.

It’s a very nice place to have a casual dinner with your family. As a foreigner I highly appreciate service and help I got when I was browsing the menu. Butter milk chicken and salted egg chicken are my favorite.
